Fincantieri as of today suspends production activities at the Monfalcone shipyard
Fincantieri announces that, pursuant to an order issued by the Criminal Court of Gorizia, the Carabinieri Unit for the Protection of Environment (Comando Carabinieri per la Tutela dell’Ambiente) – Udine Environmental Operations Task Force (Nucleo Operativo Ecologico) has provided the preventive seizure of some areas of its Monfalcone shipyard, strategic for the proper running of the production process, intended for sorting processing residues.
The request for seizure is part of an investigation initiated in May 2013, already rejected by the Preliminary Investigating Judge (GIP) at the Court of Gorizia, and by the latter Court on appeal. Following acceptance of the subsequent appeal to the Supreme Court filed by the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Gorizia, the latter was involved in the matter again and this time ordered the precautionary measure.
Notwithstanding the intention to urgently take all the appropriate actions in court in order to obtain the revocation of this measure, considered as especially burdensome also because of the damage that its continuing effects may cause, Fincantieri is forced, in accordance with the aforementioned decision of the Court, to suspend as of today the working activities for all the workers involved in the production cycle of the Monfalcone shipyard.
