Quark Icebreaker to Sail Four Arctic Itineraries

Quark Expeditions has chartered the popular Russian icebreaker, Kapitan Khlebnikov, for four back-to-back voyages that circumnavigate the Arctic in 2016.

If taken in its entirety, the 75-day voyage would take passengers from Anadyr, Russia westward to Svalbard, Norway, then circumnavigate Greenland before heading through the Canadian high Arctic and northern Alaska back to Russia.

The expedition line, which specializes in Arctic and Antarctic cruises, hasn’t offered this lengthy a voyage on an icebreaker since 2010, said Karl Kannstadter, product director. “There is a pent-up demand to do this type of thing,” he said.
